for 16-19 year olds with NO FEES!

Qualifications:

National Certificate in Building, Construction and Allied Trade Skills Level 1: BCATS 1

National Certificate in Building, Construction and Allied Trade Skills Level 2: BCATS 2

Programme Aims and Outcomes

Take your first step towards a career in the building sector. This pre-apprentice training gives you the chance to gain a National Qualification and experience the industry first hand. Tuition is in hand tool and portable electric tool use, house framing, residential fence and deck construction, building calculations and concrete work.

  • Delivery of the programme will be comprised of 4 days construction skills.
  • 18 and 19 year olds enrolled in fees-free youth guarantee qualifications are able to access the course-related and living costs part of STUDYLINK, if they meet the eligibility criteria.
  • Transport is provided from centralised pick up points

28 weeks fulltime, 81 NZQA Credits, Fees Free. Students must be 16–19 years of age at the start of the Youth Guarantee Programme (or 15 years old and hold an early leaving exemption from school).

Programmes run subject to enrolment numbers. The programme is approved by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority under section 249 of the Education Act 1989, and Ag Challenge Limited is accredited to provide it under section 250 of the Act.

 

Carpentry Certificate Level 4

Qualification:  Ag Challenge Ltd Carpentry Certificate Level 4 – PC9195

Programme Aims and Outcomes

On the job training for both theory and practical components at a pace that works for you. Combining classroom and on-site learning through building removable homes, and can offer additional support to the self-paced learning option. A one year programme completed through on site classroom focused on the theory, followed by on-site practical learning.

This programme prepares graduates to be able to gain an apprenticeship on completion, or to transition into a Construction Level 5 programme while employed in the industry.

Fees are payable and Study Link assistance is available depending upon personal circumstances.

Allied Trade Skills (Painting and Decorating) Level 3

Qualification: New Zealand Certificate in Construction Trade Skills (level 3) with the strand in Allied Trades NZ2834   **Under Development /Pending NZQA Approval

Programme Aims and Outcomes

This unit standard based programme delivered over 20 weeks will enable people to gain the necessary skills and knowledge in painting and decorating to apply for entry level employment opportunities in this sector as an apprentice or labourer. The underpinning skills and knowledge will also provide entry into other industry sectors which was identified as a need by the Master Painters in 2016.

The programme provides a progression from those leaving school or those who have completed successfully the BCATs programmes and wish to gain employment in the painting and decorating sector. The programme has a large emphasis on health and safety including working safely at heights handling paint and related products safely; and how to conduct oneself as a contractor. The technical knowledge includes calculations of material requirements, surface preparation, and painting with brush and roller. Community and in house projects will be used as basis for training so as not to compete with the industry.
